Allah Rakha Rahman first Indian music director to win two Oscars

A. R Rahman became the first Indian music director to win two Oscars for his score in the globally appreciated film 'Slumdog Millionaire' and for the film's theme song 'Jai Ho'.

"Slumdog Millionaire" Won 8 Oscars

"Slumdog Millionaire", the rags-to-riches story of a Mumbai slum dweller, had a golden run at the Oscars sweeping eight awards with two going to music maestro A R Rahman, the first Indian to achieve the historic feat.
Kerala-born sound engineer Resul Pookutty bagged an Oscar for Sound Mixing while Briton Danny Boyle was adjudged the Best Director.

Kate Winslet Won Oscar for Best Actress for the Film " The Reader "

Winslet won the best actress award for her role in The Reader as a German woman with a secret Nazi past. It was her first Oscar.

Asian Development Bank (ADB)
The Asian Development Bank is a regional development bank. It was established in 1966. The purpose behind this move was to promote economic and social development in Asian and Pacific countries through loans and technical Assistance. The headquarters of the ADB is in Mandaluyoung City, Philippines.


Association of South East Asian Nations ( ASEAN)
ASEAN is a political and economic organization. Ten countries located in Southeast Asia are part of this organization. It was established on August 8, 1967.


Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
The CBI was formed in 1963, April 1. The headquarters of CBI is in NewDelhi. It is an agency that comes under the Government of India. The founder Director of the CBI was D.P Kohli.


Child Rights and You (CRY)


CRY is a non-profit organization in India. It was established in 1979. It was started by Rippan Kapoor. The head office of the organization is in Mumbai.


Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC)
The CEC is an international organization . It was established by Canada, Mexico and United States. This organization is to deal with the regional environmental concerns.


European Union (EU)
The European Union is a political and economical organization . 27 states, located mainly in Europe, are members of it. Fifteen member states have adopted a common currency, the Euro.


Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
The FBI is the investigation agency of the United Stated Department of Justice. It was established in 1908. The FBI headquarters are in Washington, D.C. The President of the United States appoints the FBI Directors.




Federation Internationale de Football Association ( FIFA )
It is a French name and it is famous for its acronym. It is the international governing body of the game of football. The headquarters of FIFA are in Zurich, Switzerland. It was found in 1904. The first president was Robert Guerin.


Group of Eight (G8)
It is an international forum for eight governments. The members are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK and United States.


International Cricket Council (ICC)
ICC is the international governing body of cricket. It was established in 1909. The ICC organizes crickets major international tournaments.


International Olympic Committee (IOC)
The IOC is an organization based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was established in 1894. The members of the IOC are the National Olympic Committees.


National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA)
It is an agency of the United States government. It is responsible for the space programme of the United States. NASA was established in 1958. NASA’s ongoing investigations include in depth surveys of Mars and Saturn.


North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a military alliance. It was established by the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on April 4.1949. The NATO headquarter is at Brussels, Belgium.


South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation ( SAARC)
SAARC is an economic and political organization of the countries in south Asia. It was established on December 08,1985.


South East Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO)
SEATO was created by the ManilaPact, which was signed on Sept 08, 1954. It’s headquarters located in Bangkok, Thailand.





United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO)
UNESCO was established in the 1945. The headquarters are in Paris.Three bodies control the functioning of UNESCO. They are , the General Conference, The Executive Board and The Secretariate.


United Nations (UN)


The United Nations was established in the year 1945. The headquarters of UN are in the New York city. It was founder as a successor to the League of Nations. The UN day is observed on October 24 every year.


United Nations Children’s Fund ( UNICEF)
UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly on 1946.The immediate prupose of this organization was to provide emergency food and healthcare to children. The headquarters of UNICEF ARE IN New York City.


World Health Organization ( WHO)
WHO is an agency of the United Nations. It works as a coordinating authority on international public health. It was established on the year 1948. Its headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland.


World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)

It is a non-governmental organization working for environmental protection. It aims at the conservation, research and restoration of the environment.

India’s Sania Mirza won her first Grand Slam title .Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi won the Australian Open mixed doubles title for Bhupathi’s 11th Grand Slam doubles championship.The Indian pair beat Nathalie Dechy of France and Andy Ram of Israel 6-3, 6-1 at Rod Laver Arena.
